In November 2023, the team at SmoothAV provided event audio visual services to Schroders for the company’s ‘Portfolio Predictions Lunch’ in Sydney.

About Schroders and their vision for the lunch

Schroders manages billions of dollars’ worth of financial investments for clients including multinationals and corporates; local and public authorities; charities and not-for-profits; super funds, and high-net-worth individuals. The Portfolio Predictions Lunch was an event for the most important of those clients, booked to take place in the stunning Calyx in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was essential for everything to run smoothly and without a hitch.

SmoothAV’s customer focus started from the first enquiry we received from Schroders for event audio visual services. We reached out promptly to check dates, numbers, venue, objectives and everything else we needed to know about the event.

The event audio visual services we provided

As part of our planning for this event, we invite a video crew along to film, not the event itself, but everything our AV team did to prepare and run the event.

As always, we checked out the venue in advance, using our years of event audio visual experience to look for potential issues.

The Calyx is a fantastic location, but as you can see in the video, the room is curved. We identified that the large TV screen already in place at the venue might not be easily visible from all seats. So we arranged to bring in two additional 75 inch monitors, ensuring that all guests could see slides without craning their necks.

Our team of two operators and one set-up assistant had plenty of time before guests arrived to set up and test. That included ensuring all cables were neatly and safely taped in place to minimise risk of tripping. There were three speakers – two senior executives from Schroders and comedian Charlie Pickering, who not only did a stand-up spot but also acted as MC.

The audio visual services for this event also included managing Slido, which was used for a quiz where the different tables of guests competed against each other. The questions were specific and detailed on market issues, so it was a good thing the AV crew didn’t have to compete. At least the audio visual was well within our capabilities!

Overall, the lunch went smoothly and successfully. It was the kind of event where no one noticed the technical set up. From the client perspective, everything just worked.

We have another finance industry client (Barron’s Advisor) who says that technology always comes with risk and the sign of a good AV team is how they handle themselves when something goes wrong. Whether it’s internet blackouts or speakers changing presentations or equipment failure, we plan for all kinds of risks – but we still prefer events like the Schroders’ lunch where everything goes to plan.
